SC Scholastic Chess Championship

It is our great pleasure to host the 2018-19 South Carolina Scholastic Chess Championships in Columbia, South Carolina!

Online registration closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8th. Afterwards, students must register on-site and will receive a first-round bye.

Date: March 9th, 2019
VENUE: Dent Middle School, 2721 Decker Blvd, Columbia, SC 29206
Format: Five round swiss system; time control is G30; D5. High and Middle school sections play G45; D5 for the final two games.
Requirements: Valid USCF membership, proof of SC residency.
Price: $25 if registration AND payment received by 3/2; Thereafter entry is $35. Entry is discounted $10 for first-time USCF members.
Divisions: Primary (K-3rd); Elementary (4th-5th); Middle (6th-8th); High (9th-12th) | Players may play above grade level but not below. Students competing above their grade level are eligible to represent SC at nationals (subject to specific tournament qualification criteria) and to win place prizes; they are not eligible to win their grade championship title or have their points counted for any team.
Schedule: Games start at 10. Check-in and on-site registration begins at 9. On-site registrants will be assigned a first-round bye.

PRIZES: 1st-10th place and top female receive trophies in each division*
Top 3 teams in each division receive a trophy.
1st place K-8 wins bid to Barber Tournament
1st place K-12 wins bid to Denker Tournament
1st place K-12 female wins bid to her choice of the NGTOC or the Susan Polgar Invitational
2nd place K-12 female wins bid to NGTOC or Susan Polgar Invitational
Top-scoring players in each grade will be recognized as champion (or co-champion) of their grade.
*Awards subject to change based on number of participants in each division
