It is our great pleasure to host the 2017-18 South Carolina Scholastic Chess Championships in Columbia, South Carolina, and our greater pleasure to bring the event to the SC State Museum a beautiful venue dedicated to the sort of mental creativity and discovery demonstrated by SC's young chess players!
Date: March 3rd
VENUE: SC State Museum!
Format: Five round swiss system; time control is G30; D5. High and Middle school sections play G45; D5 for the final two games.
Requirements: Valid USCF membership, proof of SC residency.
Price: $25 if registration AND payment received by 2/28; Thereafter entry is $35. Entry is discounted $10 for first-time USCF members.
Divisions: Primary (K-3rd); Elementary (4th-5th); Middle (6th-8th); High (9th-12th) | Players may play above grade level but not below.
Schedule: Games start at 10. All players must check in by 9:30!
Other: All participants and family receive free admission to the SC State Museum! Lunch available for purchase in the museum cafeteria.
PRIZES: 1st-10th place and top female receive trophies in each division*
Top 3 teams in each division receive a trophy.
1st place middle school wins bid to Barber Tournament
1st place high school wins bid to Denker Tournament
1st place high school female wins bid to National Girls’ Invitational
2nd place high school female wins bid to Susan Polgar Invitational
Top-scoring players in each grade will be recognized as champion (or co-champion) of their grade.
*Awards subject to change based on number of participants in each division
