There are enormous benefits to teaching chess in schools. Children who take chess in schools tend to improve academically across the duration of the program. Chess builds many different types of mental skills in a fun competition environment. Chess also builds social skills, teaching students how to be both good winners and good losers and to learn from their mistakes! Some of the benefits of learning chess include:
Typically, the after school program meets once a week. Each week includes a short instruction and game time along with personal tutoring and interaction. The curriculum will train beginning students to the level of a tournament player. Strategery provides all of the materials necessary (boards, pieces, game clocks, and demo boards). Students are also encouraged and enabled to compete both individually and as a team in local and regional competition where they may represent the school.

My child absolutely loves his after school chess club. Sam, the instructor, is everything a parent would want in a chess instructor- knowledgeable, organized, and patient. He provides individualized instruction through a variety of methods and instructional activities, and his positive feedback inspires and motivates all who attend. Thank you very much for bringing this quality program to our school. - Rachel Ferrario
